The Saline County Board of County Commissioners met on Tuesday, April 14th. Here are the highlights from the meeting:

Justin Mader, County Engineer presented a request for action for the 2020 Bituminous Chip Seal project that includes chip sealing of 36 miles of roadway in Saline County. These projects are projected to begin after July 15th and completed before September 27th, so that no work will be done during harvest. Total cost for this work is estimated to be $815,179.75. Commissioners approved this project request.
Jim DuBois, County Treasurer reported on the interest received on idle funds for the first quarter of 2020. Mr. DuBois noted that $207,165.02 was received in the first quarter, which is about $40,000 less than what was received this same time last year. He also noted that interest rates have gone from 1.38% down to 0.20%.
Phillip Smith-Hanes, County Administrator, reported on the status of the 2021 budget process. He will be providing a report to the Commissioners next week on the revenues and expenditures for the first quarter of 2020. Mr. Smith-Hanes also reported that the 2019 Financial Audit is complete and asked for the Commissioners to provide feedback on their desire to have a formal presentation of the audit. Lastly, Mr. Smith-Hanes reported that with the Commissioner’s decision to place the jail project on the ballot for voters in November that Bond Counsel and Financial Advisors will wait to run financial scenarios to have a better understanding of what the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic will have on sales tax revenues.
One executive session occurred for the purposes of non-elected personnel.
